Elmwood - St. Joseph Municipal Cemetery is a fascinating place filled with natural beauty and historical significance.
The rolling landscape, consisting of approximately 70 acres in the heart of Mason City, is a perfect place for people to relax and reflect on life.
The St. Joseph and Elmwood Cemeteries, which date back to the 1860's, were combined into one containing a reflection of the cultural heritage and diverse religious faiths of the many families in Mason City.
The cemetery also has great historical significance with respect to city founders, war veterans and famous citizens.
In 1949, the City took over the operation of the cemetery to assure its existence on a permanent basis.
Community members are encouraged to enjoy the beautiful grounds by strolling through the picturesque scenery, watching the wildlife by the pond or exploring the rich heritage and genealogy that exists there.
