BIKE MC Bike Share Program Launched

The Mason City Active Living and Transportation Commission (ALT-C)  launched a new bike share program on May 3, 2018 at Fat Hill Brewing.
BIKE MC - Bike Share Program
The bike share program was a priority goal for the Commission since their inception in March 2016 and promotes MOVING MORE. Steve Schurtz, chair of the ALT-C said, "We hope to increase access to bicycles for residents and visitors for a range of uses, including short trips to run errands, transit-work trips, and scenic tourism rides. We hope it encourages active living, enjoying the outdoors, and riding our many and expanding bike trails and on-street bike lanes.” Printed bike maps of Mason City bike system will be available, and are available for download to any smart phone on the City's website.

The bike share program has twelve bikes and three locations and is sponsored entirely by businesses. Locations are: City Hall, East Park Prairie Playground entrance, and MacNider Camp Grounds

To rent and use a bike, one needs a smart phone and a credit or debit card and must download the KoloniShare app . Instructions are found on each bike and bike rack.

The bikes are equipped with a rear basket, kick stand, bell, and have three gears and are belt driven for a comfortable easy ride.  An alarm system is integrated into the bike lock. Bikes may be locked throughout the ride when stopping for errands, lunch, or viewing our local attractions.

CSA - Community Supported Agriculture

Don’t have a green thumb? Want to eat healthier but short on time?

You can take advantage of healthier food options through a local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). HEALTHY-Mason City promotes healthy food choices and locally grown food. And we have CSAs right in our communities.

CSAs are a great way to promote healthier food options while supporting local producers and vendors. By allowing us to sit down with your leadership team or wellness committee and visit about this opportunity, we can share information about local CSAs and the benefits to you and your employees.

CSAs aren't confined to produce. Some farmers include the option for shareholders to buy shares of eggs, homemade bread, meat, cheese, fruit, flowers or other farm products along with their veggies. Sometimes several farmers will offer their products together, to offer the widest variety to their members.
