Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Call Center helps relieve organizations and connects the public with resources and information to address concerns and questions about COVID-19.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough and shortness of breath. The most at risk to the virus is older adults and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.


It is important to continue to follow standard precautions to prevent the spread of infectious disease. To prevent the spread of any virus including novel coronavirus, practice these preventative measures:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Avoid close contact (at least 6 feet distance) with people who are sick or experiencing respiratory symptoms such as cough
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your mouth with your upper arm or tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Take social distancing measures. Restrict where and when you gather with others.
*There are  instructions for self-isolation for persons returning from countries affected by COVID-19.

The Iowa Department of Public Health has recommended that Iowans returning from countries affected by COVID-19 voluntarily self-isolate for 14 days following their return. COVID-19 affected areas are countries for which Level 3 and Level 2 Travel Health Notices have been issued by CDC. To identify which countries have travel notices, visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html.
