Exhibit: 39th Annual Cerro Gordo Photo Show - Charles H. MacNider Art Museum, 303 2nd St. SE (641-421-3666).  All residents of Cerro Gordo County, high school age and over, and any student registered at NIACC (North Iowa Area Community College) for the spring or summer semesters of 2019, are invited to submit photographs for consideration for the 39th Annual Cerro Gordo Photography Competition. For photo show rules and entry form please visit > https://macniderart.org/ Works of art will be on display until June 29. Exhibit will be open during normal operation hours of the museum.

It’s Only Play! - Mason City Community Theatre, 215 S Delaware (641-424-6424).  It’s opening night of Peter Austin’s new play as he anxiously awaits to see if his show is a hit. With his career on the line, he shares his big First Night with his best friend, a television star, his fledgling producer, his erratic leading lady, his wunderkind director, an infamous drama critic and a wide-eyed coat check attendant on his first night in Manhattan. It’s alternately raucous, ridiculous and tender – reminding audiences why there’s no business like show business. The Guardian calls this “the dramatic equivalent of a selfie” We call this a glimpse into the minds of theatre people. Box office open 1-5pm weekdays. New Horizons Spring Band Concert & Ice Cream Social – Music Man Square – Reunion Hall, 308 S. Pennsylvania Ave (641-420-7640). The New Horizons Band will present its annual spring concert at 4:00pm. An ice cream social will be held at the conclusion of the concert in honor of Meredith Willson’s birthday, on May 18. This event is free and open to the public.

Ride of Silence – Central Park, Downtown Mason City. Ride of Silence is a worldwide event held on the third Wednesday of May to remember cyclist killed in incidents with motor vehicles and to honor those injured similarly. There will be a short program followed by a 6-mile easy ride, maximum speed 12MPH. All that is required to participate in the ride is a helmet and bike. Many folks come just for the program. Author Linda McCann presenting ‘Prisoners of War in Iowa’ -  Mason City Public Library, 225 2nd St. SE (641-421-3668). Linda McCann will be presenting her book ‘Prisoners of War in Iowa’. Iowa had about 25,000 German, Italian, and Japanese prisoners of war who lived and worked here between 1943 and 1946. There were two main camps at Algona and Clarinda, and also about 17 branch camps where the POWs did short-term work. She will share memories of people who worked with the prisoners or got to know them. This event is free and open to the public. All ages welcome.
